Llandudno Musical Productions (LMP), a registered charity, was formed in 2003 by the amalgamation of two of Llandudno’s great amateur companies, Llandudno Operatic Society and Llandudno Musical Players. 

Llandudno Operatic Society began in 1909 when Mr. L.H. Summerfield, the choirmaster of St Paul’s Church, Craig-y-Don, gathered together a group of enthusiastic people to produce their first presentation, 'Trial by Jury' in 1910. Apart from the war years, a production was put on every year at the Grand Theatre, Palladium Theatre, Arcadia Theatre and latterly, the North Wales Theatre (now known as Venue Cymru).

Llandudno Musical Players were formed in 1923. Their first production was 'The Geisha' and as with Llandudno Operatic Society they also performed every year except for the war years. Some years as in 1998 with 'The King and I' there were as many as 90 members on stage. 

Twice in their history the groups joined together with other societies for special productions. The first, in 1994, as Joint Productions they produced 'Jesus Christ Superstar' to mark the opening of the new North Wales Theatre, which was performed before H.R.H. Prince Charles. A millennium production of 'Singing in the Rain' was also performed jointly in the year 2000.

Due to the rising costs of performing in the North Wales Theatre both societies faced hard times. As many of each society's members were performing for both societies and the back stage crews working together, it seemed only natural that the two societies merged to their mutual advantage.

Llandudno Musical Productions has now been going from strength to strength with a number of successful productions under our belt and are already looking towards the next show!
